Meditate on
verses 1-3.
O God, do not remain quiet; do not be
silent and, O God, do not be still.
For behold, Your enemies make an
uproar,
and those who hate You have
exalted themselves.
They make shrewd plans against Your people
and conspire together against
Your treasured ones.
Approximately
3,000 years ago, Asaph listed all the enemies hoping to annihilate the nation
of Israel so her name was no longer remembered (v. 4). Asaph asked God to pursue and terrify Israel’s
adversaries, shaming and humiliating them (vs. 15, 17). He hoped such dishonor
would cause these wicked people to seek the name of the LORD (v. 16).
God
protected Israel; she is still a nation today. And interestingly, the descendants of those
enemies are Israel’s current, modern day foes. They still seek the extermination of this
nation loved by God, and they desire to kill Christians, who are also God’s
beloved. Know with certainty, God will
continue to protect Israel, and He also promises to protect you.
But the LORD is faithful, and He will strengthen
and protect you from the evil
one.
—2 Thessalonians
3:3
Obey your LORD’s
command to pray for your enemies (Luke 6:27-28) by appealing to Him with Psalm
83:1-3, 16, and 18 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“O God, do not remain quiet; do not be
silent and, O God, do not be
still!
For behold, Your enemies make an uproar,
and those who hate You have exalted themselves.
They make shrewd plans against Your people,
and conspire together against Your treasured ones.
Do what You need to do, even filling their
faces with dishonor, that they
may seek
Your name, O LORD. May they know
that You
alone, whose name is the LORD, are
the Most High over all the earth.
In Your Most High name, Jesus~”
