Meditate on verses 2b-3.

Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man.

 Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk

 in His ways and to keep His statutes, His commandments,

His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what

 is written in the Law of Moses, that you may succeed

 in all that you do and wherever you turn.

This chapter contains the last words of King David to his son, King Solomon. They are wise words from a loving father who wanted to see his son firmly established in God’s plans for his life (vs. 4, 12).

David’s words probably echo your desires for your loved ones. You want them to be strong in the LORD. You want the males to show themselves to be men, not emasculated by the ways of the world. You want your loved ones to walk in God’s truth with all their heart and soul so they can succeed in His plans for their lives.

As a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), pray 1 Kings 2:2b-4 and 45 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard.

“LORD, let ________ and me be strong.

  Make our men show themselves to be men.

Help us keep Your charge, O LORD our God,

 to walk in Your ways, to keep Your statutes, Your commandments,

 Your ordinances, and Your testimonies,

according to what is written in Your Law,

 that we may succeed in all that we do

 and wherever we turn, so that You may

 carry out Your promises which You spoke concerning us.

 Make us careful of our way to walk before

 You in truth with all our heart and with all our soul.

 Do not let us be lacking; let us be blessed

and established before You forever.

John 21 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verse 16.                                                        

He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”

 He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”

Peter needed miraculous restoration. Rather than rebuke Peter for thrice disavowing Him, Jesus commanded him three times to shepherd His sheep (John 18:15-27; 21:15-17). Christ knew that caring for others was a great prescription for spiritual and emotional healing. Peter needed to tend the lambs coming to faith in Christ rather than wallow in self-condemnation and self-loathing for past mistakes.

If you are plagued by past sins and feel disqualified to serve the LORD, repent and hear Jesus say to you, “Follow Me!” (v. 19). Be quick to obey everything He asks you to do, knowing He needs you, too, to tend His flock.

Pray to obey Christ’s commands in John 21:15-17, 19, and 22.

“LORD, You know that I love You. 

Help me to tend Your lambs; shepherd Your sheep,

and tend Your sheep as I follow You.

John 20 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verses 30-31.

Therefore, many other signs Jesus also performed

 in the presence of the disciples, which are not written

 in this book; but these have been written

so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;

and that believing you may have life in His name.

The Holy Spirit wrote this Gospel through John, the disciple, with the purpose of establishing that Jesus is the Messiah and the only Way to obtain eternal life (John 14:6). He proved it by recording a few of Jesus’ innumerable miracles:

·      Water to wine (John 2)

·      Official’s son healed (John 4)

·      Man healed after 38 years (John 5)

·      Feeding the 5000 (John 6)

·      Walking on water (John 6)

·      Blind man healed (John 9)

·      Raising Lazarus (John 11)

·      Resurrection from the dead (John 20)

·      Materializing within a locked room (John 20)

·      Breathing the Holy Spirit on the disciples (John 20)

These miracles prove Jesus is preeminent over creation, time, space, life, death, and you. As you bask in these divine truths, hear Jesus say, “Peace be with you” (v. 26).

Respond to Him with, “My LORD and my God!” (v. 28).

Pray John 20:31 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Jesus, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God,

and that by believing I have life in Your name. 

Holy Spirit, please draw ________ to make the same confession.

John 19 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verse 35.

And he who has seen has testified,

and his testimony is true;

 and he knows that he is telling the truth,

so that you also may believe.

John, the beloved disciple of Jesus, stayed close to the cross when others fled. John was so close to the cross that he was an eyewitness to the prophecy fulfillment that not a bone of Christ’s body was broken during the crucifixion (v. 36).

Contrast Joseph of Arimathea with John. Joseph was described as a secret disciple of Jesus because he feared the Jews (v. 38).

With whom do you most identify? Do you readily declare the truth about Jesus, so others may believe, or do you fear what people might think of you for speaking about Christ?

Ask the LORD to help you not be afraid and pray John 19:35 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, I have seen You in my life.

  Help ________ and me testify about You.

 May our testimony be true.  Help us tell the truth,

 so that others may also believe.

John 18 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on these phrases from verses 5-6 and 8.  Jesus is talking.

He said to them, “I AM.”

So when He said to them, “I AM,” they

drew back and fell to the ground.

Jesus answered, “I told you that I AM.”

Picture the scene. Jesus was in a quiet garden on the Mount of Olives praying. Suddenly, a group of over 600 men, Roman soldiers and high- ranking officials from the temple, flood the area, carrying lanterns, torches, and weapons (Luke 22:39-47; John 18:1-3). They said they were looking for Jesus the Nazarene. When Jesus replied, “I AM,” the entire mob fell to the ground! Over 600 heavily armed men immediately fell down because they were in the presence of Almighty God! I AM; the very same God who revealed Himself to Moses as I AM WHO I AM (Exodus 3:14), revealed Himself to this group of Romans and Jews, and the revelation forced them on their faces before Him.

How does Jesus affect you? Spend this day thinking about Him. And when you are so overcome by His presence, do not hesitate to fall before Him and acknowledge that He is God of you, the only I AM who has dominion over you.

Pray John 18:37 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“I AM, You said, ‘Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’

May ________ and I be of the truth,

hear Your voice, and obey You.

*Most English translations of the “I AM” passages in the book of John add the word He, thinking it helps the English translation makes more sense; “I am He.” The translators often italicize the word He because it is not in the original manuscripts. We want the impact of Jesus’ words to be understood; therefore, we have purposely left out the italicized He, so you can clearly see Jesus is declaring He is God.

John 17 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verse 20.

I do not ask on behalf of these alone,

but for those also who believe in Me through their word.

Ponder the fact that Jesus was thinking about you and praying for you in the hours leading up to His crucifixion.  Before He prayed for Himself (Luke 22:42), Jesus prayed for you: 

·      to have eternal life, so you can intimately know Him (v. 3).

·      to be kept by the Father in His name (v. 11).

·      to have His joy made full in you (v. 13).

·      to not be of the world just as Jesus is not of the world, and while you are in the world, for the Father to keep you from the evil one (vs. 14-15).

·      to be purified in the truth of His Word (v. 17).

·      to be perfected and unified with Himself, the Father, and other Christians, just as He and the Father are one. That oneness helps the world to know and believe in Jesus (vs. 21-23).

·      to be with Him so you can see His glory, the glory He gives to you.  (vs. 22, 24).

·      to have the love of the Father in you and for Jesus, Himself, to be in you (v. 26).

Reread John 17, thanking Jesus for what He has done for you.  As a faithful, prayerful watchman, pray John 17:2-3 over someone who needs to be one with the Father and the Son.

“Father, You gave Jesus authority over all flesh.

 Please give _________ to Him so they may have eternal life to know You,

 the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

John 16 - Praying God's Word

Meditate on verses 1 and 33.  Jesus is talking to you.

“These things I have spoken to you so

 that you may be kept from stumbling.

These I have spoken to you so

that in Me, you may have peace.

 In the world, you have tribulation, but

 take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus knew what awaited Him in the coming hours. Yet, rather than be self-absorbed, His love for you compelled Him to say things He wants you to remember, things that will keep you from stumbling and will give you peace (vs. 1, 4, 33).

You have the incredible privilege to hold those Words in your hands, read them, meditate on them, memorize them, speak them, and pray them. God’s all-powerful Word changes your life and the lives of those you love.

And, not only do you have the very Words of God, Jesus gave you His Spirit of Truth, the Helper, to guide you into all truth, teaching and disclosing what His Words mean (vs. 7, 13). Amazing!

Reread John 14-16 and ask the Helper, the Spirit of Truth, to reveal why it is so important to the Savior for you to know these Words.

Pray John 16:8 and 13 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Helper, convict the world, and  _________, and

 me of sin and righteousness and judgment.

Spirit of Truth, guide us into all truth

and disclose to us what is to come.

Make us like You, speaking

 not on our own initiative

 but only what we hear in Christ’s Word.
