Please read 2 Samuel 19.
Meditate on verses 21b and 23.
“Should not Shimei be put to
death for this, because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?” The king said to Shimei, “You shall not
die.” Thus the king swore to him.
Recall Shimei threw stones at King David and continually
cursed him (2 Samuel 16:5-6). Of course
he deserved to die for treating the LORD’s anointed with such contempt, yet
David in his mercy showed undeserved kindness to Shimei and allowed him to
live.
But God being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He
loved us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together
with Christ
(by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him,
and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
—Ephesians 2:4-6
Jesus was born to die for dead dogs, like Shimei and
Mephibosheth, and for egotistical people, like Absalom, and for less than
perfect fathers, like David, and for you.
And like the thief on the cross, when you give your life to Jesus, He
says to you, “You shall not die; today, you will be with Me in Paradise” (v.
23; Luke 23:43).
Pray 2 Samuel 19:16, 20-21, and 23 over yourself and those
for whom you stand guard as a faithful prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“King Jesus, ___________ and I hurry and come to meet You.
We are Your servants, and we know we have sinned;
therefore, we come to meet You,
our LORD, the King.
We deserve death for cursing the LORD’s Anointed.
Thank You for saying, ‘You shall not die.’
Because of You, King Jesus~”
