2 Samuel 16 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Samuel 16.

Meditate on verse 12.

Perhaps the LORD will look on my affliction
and return good to me instead of his cursing this day.

Things went from bad to worse for David. Not only had Absalom betrayed David, but he was told that Mephibosheth also hoped to usurp the throne. David was cursed and stoned by Saul’s relative, Shimei, and his friend, Hushai, traitorously pledged his loyalty to Absalom. The chapter ends with Absalom having sex with his father’s concubines on the roof of David’s house “in the sight of all Israel” (v. 22).
Perhaps it was on this horrific day that David wrote:

O LORD, how my adversaries have increased!  Many are rising up against me.
Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.”
But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
who have set themselves against me round about.
—Psalm 3:1-3, 6

Hopefully your day is not as bad as David’s, but be encouraged even if it is, and pray Psalm 3:3 and 2 Samuel 16:12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“You, O LORD, are a shield about _________ and me,
our glory and the One who lifts our head.
Please look on our affliction
and return good to us instead of cursing this day.
In Your name, Jesus~”
