Hebrews 12 - Praying God's Word

Please read Hebrews 12.

Meditate on verses 1-2a.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,
let us also lay aside every encumbrance
and the sin which so easily entangles us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…

Hebrews 12 starts and ends with therefore (vs. 1, 28).  Observe why it is there.

Because of the resounding encouragement of the faithful, run this race well by setting your eyes on Jesus and obeying Him.  Hebrews 12 is full of exhortations from God to help you as you run.

As you run with Jesus and enter the Holy Place of God, note who else is in heaven:

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,
to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven,
and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood…
—Hebrews 12:22-24

Therefore, as you near the finish line, seeing who awaits you in Christ’s kingdom, continue serving God with gratitude, reverence, and awe (v. 28).

Pray Hebrews 12:28 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, thank You for letting _______ and me be part of Your unshakable kingdom.
Let us show our gratitude by offering You
the acceptable service of our lives with reverence and awe.
In Your name, Jesus~”
