Proverbs 7 - Praying God's Word

Please read Proverbs 7
Meditate on verses 1-5a

My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.
Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your intimate friend;
that they may keep you from an adulteress.

The first nine chapters of Proverbs start by praising wisdom. You learn God’s wisdom when you know His words and commandments. You know God’s Word when you keep it, treasure it, bind it around your neck, and write it on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 7 gives a vivid description of a foolish boy falling into the trap of the adulteress who heartily encourages him to join her in her sinful ways. It is the same method of the wicked described in Romans 1:18-32. The boy will ruin his life because his carnal passions are not overcome by the wisdom of God. God’s Word is not the foundation of his decision making process.
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your Word.
Your Word I have treasured in my heart,
that I may not sin against You.
—Psalms 119:9, 11
God says over and over in Proverbs that wisdom is greater than wickedness; it overcomes evil and makes righteous choices. The treasured wisdom is like family. Proverbs 7:4 describes wisdom as a sibling. In Christ, Jesus is your older brother, and He is wisdom from God (1 Corinthians 1:24). Understanding is your intimate friend. As a Christian, you have a relationship with God’s Word that protects you. You do not have to become the prey of an adulteress. God has so much more stored up in life for you!
Pray Proverbs 7:1-4 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help  ___________ and me
to keep Your words and treasure Your commandments.
May we experience life as a result of keeping Your commandments
and making your teaching the apple of our eyes.
Bind your commandments on us and write them on the tablets of our hearts.
May we know Your wisdom and understanding intimately.
In Your name, Jesus~”
