Psalm 143 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 143.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/143/1/s_621001
Meditate on verse 10.

Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God.

Crushed and overwhelmed in the middle of serious trials, David cried out to God, not only begging Him to come to his aid, but wanting God to teach him, so the hard time could be a productive time. Are you or someone you love in the midst of difficult days? What is God teaching you? He doesn’t allow these seasons for naught. As you walk through trying times with the LORD, your faith increases, and you are made perfect and complete in Him (James 1:2-4).
Pray Psalm 143:1 and 3-12 over yourself and those you love as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!
The enemy has persecuted __________ and my soul;
he has crushed our life to the ground;
he has made us dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.
Therefore, my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
my heart is appalled within me.
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your doings;
I muse on the work of Your hands.  I stretch out my hands to You;
my soul longs for You, as a parched land.
Answer me quickly, O LORD; our spirits fail;
 do not hide Your face from us,
or we will become like those who go down to the pit.
Let us hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
for we trust in You; teach us the way in which we should walk;
for to You we lift up our souls.
Deliver us, O LORD, from our enemies; we take refuge in You.
Teach us to do Your will, for You are our God;
let Your good Spirit lead us on level ground.
For the sake of Your name, O LORD, revive us.
 In Your righteousness, bring our souls out of trouble.
And in Your lovingkindness, cut off our enemies
and destroy all those who afflict our souls, for we are Your servants.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 142 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 142.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/142/1/s_620001
Meditate on verses 1-2.

I cry aloud with my voice to the LORD;
I make supplication with my voice to the LORD.
I pour out my complaints before Him;
 I declare my trouble before Him.

Ponder the privilege you have to cry out, literally, to shriek in anguish to the God of the universe. You have the precious opportunity to beseech your Creator for His favor on you and your loved ones. He will not strike you dead for pouring out your complaints to Him and telling Him all your troubles; on the contrary, He desires a relationship with you where you have the intimate freedom to tell Him everything. Amazing!
Cry aloud to God with Psalm 142 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

 “I cry aloud with my voice to You, LORD;
 I make supplication with my voice to You, LORD.
 I pour out my complaint before You;
I declare my trouble to You.
My spirit is overwhelmed within me;
You know my path.  In the way where I walk,
 they have hidden a trap for ________ and me.
LORD, look to the right and see,
for there is no one who regards us.
There is no escape for us; no one cares for our souls.
LORD, please regard us and provide a way of escape
 because You care for our souls.
I cry out to You, O LORD!  You are our refuge,
our portion in the land of the living.
Give heed to my cry, for we are brought very low;
 deliver us from our persecutors,
for they are too strong for us.
Bring our souls out of prison,
 so that we may give thanks to Your name.
 The righteous will surround us,
 for You will deal bountifully with us.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 141 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 141.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/141/1/s_619001
Meditate on and memorize verse 3.

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth;
keep watch over the door of my lips.

Have you ever said something and wished you could take it back? If so, you know it is impossible to do, and sadly, can cause irreparable damage. The meditation verse is a good one to memorize and pray before opening your mouth. It can keep you from saying the regrettable, giving you the opportunity to engage in conversations knowing the Holy Spirit, instead of your flesh, is controlling what you say.
Call to the LORD on behalf of yourself and those for whom you stand guard with Psalm 141:1-4 and 8, as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“O LORD, I call upon You;
hasten to ________ and me!
Give ear to our voice when we call to You!
May our prayers be counted as incense before You;
the lifting up of our hands as the evening offering.
Set a guard, O LORD, over our mouths;
keep watch over the door of our lips.
Do not incline our hearts to any evil thing,
 to practice deeds of wickedness
with men who do iniquity;
 and do not let us eat of their delicacies.
Our eyes are toward You, O God, the LORD;
in You we take refuge; do not leave us defenseless.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 140 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 140.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/140/1/s_618001
Meditate on verse 6.

I said to the LORD, “You are my God;
 give ear, O LORD, to the voice of my supplications.”

This psalm contains really strong verses to pray over really difficult situations.  Pray it with discretion when you need the LORD’s protection from slanderous and violent people who want to harm you and those you love.

Pray Psalm 140 on behalf of those in desperate situations.

“Rescue _________ and me, O LORD, from evil men;
 preserve us from violent men who devise evil things in their hearts;
they continually stir up wars.
They sharpen their tongues as a serpent;
poison of a viper is under their lips.
Keep us, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve us
 from violent men who have purposed to trip up our feet.
The proud have hidden a trap for us, and cords;
they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set snares for us.
LORD, You are our God; give ear, O LORD,
 to the voice of my supplications!
O God the LORD, the strength of our salvation,
 You have covered our head in the day of battle.
Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked;
do not promote their evil device, that they not be exalted.
As for the head of those who surround us,
 may the mischief of their lips cover them.
May burning coals fall upon them;
may they be cast into the fire,
into deep pits from which they cannot rise.
May a slanderer not be established in the earth;
may evil hunt the violent man speedily.
LORD, I know that You will maintain
 the cause of the afflicted and justice for the poor.
LORD, keep us righteous; we will give thanks to Your name.
Keep us upright; let us dwell in Your presence.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus”

Psalm 139 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 139.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/139/1/s_617001
Meditate on verse 1.

O LORD, You have searched me and known me.

The LORD is intimately acquainted with you. Let that thought soak  in— the LORD intimately knows everything about you. He knows when you sit down and when you get up (v. 2). He knows and understands what you are thinking (v. 2). He knows what you are going to say before you say it (v. 4). He intricately put every cell of your body together, wonderfully the way He wanted you (vs. 13-15). He knew the exact day of your birth, and He knows the exact day of your death; everyday of your life has already been written in His book (v. 16). These are amazing truths about you from God’s Word! Knowing these truths, you can walk in confident, constant intimacy with your Creator—incredible!
As you continue in intimate conversation with God, say these words from Psalm 139:17-18 and 23-24 to Him as His faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God!
 How vast is the sum of them!
 If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
 try me and know my anxious thoughts;
and see if there be any hurtful way in me
 and lead me in the everlasting way.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 138 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 138.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/138/1/s_616001
Meditate on and memorize verse 8a to pray the moment you need it.

The LORD will accomplish what concerns me…

This is my go-to verse when I need desperate prayers for desperate situations. There are days those are the only words my faint heart and quivering lips can form:

“The LORD will accomplish what concerns me;
 the LORD will accomplish what concerns me;
the LORD will accomplish what concerns me…”

I have said them literally hundreds of times—“The LORD will accomplish what concerns me….” And, He absolutely does accomplish what concerns me. “Thank You, LORD!”
Pray Psalm 138 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, I give thanks to You with all my heart;
 I sing praises to You before the gods.
I bow down toward Your holy temple
and give thanks to Your name
for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have
 magnified Your Word according to all Your name.
LORD, I am calling to You on behalf of _________ and me.
Please answer me.  Make us bold with strength in our souls.
May all the kings of the earth give thanks to You, O LORD,
 when they hear the Words of Your mouth.
Let them sing of Your ways,
for great is Your glory, LORD.
LORD, You are exalted, yet You regard the lowly,
 but the haughty You know from afar.
Do not let us be haughty, LORD.
We walk in the midst of trouble; please revive us.
Stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of our enemies;
let Your right hand save us.
LORD, You will accomplish what concerns me;
 Your lovingkindness, O LORD,
is everlasting; do not forsake the works of Your hands.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

Psalm 137 - Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 137.
www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/psa/137/1/s_615001
Meditate on verse 4.

How can we sing the LORD’S
 song in a foreign land?

This psalm gives insight into the hopelessness of the Jews forced to leave Israel and go to Babylon. Their captors wanted them to sing temple songs for the purpose of making fun of them. The Israelites defiantly hung up their instruments, refusing to play and sing. Their despair even took them to the wretched place of hoping Babylonian babies would be dashed against rocks (vs. 8-9). What a horrible situation!
The Jews probably should have ignored their persecutors and sung a song to the LORD to quiet their tormented souls. Thanking and praising God in the midst of difficulties is the best antidote to hopeless despair. In fact, the LORD commands it:

Rejoice always; in everything give thanks,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
—1 Thessalonians 5:16, 18

Psalm 137 may describe how you or someone you love feels today.  Pray for God to help you sing to Him by giving you the answer to the question in verse 4.

“LORD, how can __________ and I sing Your song in a foreign land?
Please help us sing for the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

What is a song for God that comes to your mind?  Do not hesitate; sing it to Him.
