Genesis 7 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 7.
Meditate on verse 5.

Noah did according to all that the LORD had commanded him.

The theme of obeying God runs throughout the book of Genesis. People’s deliberate disobedience to God brought His righteous judgment on the earth. In the midst of judgment, one man, Noah, and his family were spared because Noah was righteous before God (Genesis 7:1).
Noah did according to all that God commanded him (Genesis 6:22). His obedience brought blessings to his entire family.
What about your family? Are the people in your life being blessed as you obediently follow Jesus Christ? Are they learning from your example how to live and walk every day with God?
Jesus Christ makes you righteous before God. Obedience to Christ draws others to want a righteous relationship with Him. Live for your Savior so the destroying flood of sin does not prevail over you and those you love. He wants to spare you and your family. Choose His righteousness.
Pray Genesis 7:1 and 5 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, make _______ me righteous before You for the sake of my family!
Let ________ and me do according to all that You command.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 6 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 6.
Meditate on verse 9b.

Noah walked with God.

Like Enoch in Genesis 5:21-24, Noah walked with God. God gives you details in Genesis 6 about those who walked with God and those who chose not to. Examine your life in light of these truths.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless, walking with God, and he found favor in the eyes of God (Genesis 6:8-9). Noah stood in direct contrast to the rest of mankind who grieved God and whom He described as having great wickedness, whose “every intent of the thoughts of their heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5-6).
Which person are you?
Are you:
1. Righteous
2. Blameless
3. Walking with God
Or are you:
1. Wicked
2. The intentions of the thoughts of your heart are continually evil
3. You grieve God in His heart
Here is how to decide which list you are; you will not be both. Genesis 6:22 says, “Noah did according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.”
Pray Genesis 6:8-9 and 22 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“God, ________ and I want to find favor with You.
Make us like Noah:
righteous, blameless, walking with You.

May we do according to all that You command us.
For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 5 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 5.
Meditate on verse 24a.

Enoch walked with God…

Chapter 5 is the second recorded genealogy in Genesis. The first is in Genesis 1-2:3, the genealogy of creation. Readers of God’s Word are often tempted to skip genealogy chapters; however, treasure verses are left undiscovered when they do.
Genesis 5:24 is the story of one of my favorite Bible heroes, Enoch. It contains the words I would like to be worthy of having inscribed on my tombstone: She walked with God.
Walked carries within it the idea of one’s continual behavior and existence. Enoch walked with God. He lived life with God.
Enoch began walking with God when he was 65 years old, after he became the father of Methuselah (Genesis 5:21-22). From that point, walking with God was the beginning and the end of his story. No other detail was needed except the fact that Enoch so lived with God that his sentence in the genealogy does not end with “and he died” like every other man listed in the chapter. “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24).
It was as if God and Enoch were walking together, and the day came when God said, “You know, Enoch, today we really are closer to My house than yours; let’s go spend the rest of eternity there.”
Think about your life. How do people describe you? Would they describe you as walking with God?
Pray Genesis 5:24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“God, let ________ and me walk with You!
In Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 4 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 4.
Meditate on verse 7.

If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up?
And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door,
and its desire is for you, but you must master it.

This is an important passage of Scripture. In Genesis 4, God engaged Cain so he would not kill his brother Abel. Cain needed to hear God, subdue his anger, and find out why his sacrifice was not accepted by God. God was providing a way of escape for Cain from the temptation to kill Abel.
God provides you a way of escape with every temptation as well (1 Corinthians 10:13). God also gives you free will. He allows you to choose. You can obey God, or you can obey sin. The course your life takes is your choice. God will not force you to love and follow Him. You have the privilege of choosing.
Sin desires to control your life. Satan wants you to choose sin to be your master. God says when you master sin rather than allowing sin to master you, your countenance will be lifted up, you will be happy, and you will do well.
Remember the father of lies says sin will make you happy. God says mastering sin will make you happy. What will you choose? Do you choose to serve Satan and sin, or do you choose to serve God?
Pray Genesis 4:7 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, sin is crouching at the door of ________ and me.
Its desire is for us. LORD, help us master it!

Let us do well, so our countenance will be lifted up.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 3 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 3.
Meditate on this phrase from verse 1.

“Indeed, has God said…. ?”

These are the first recorded words of the serpent, who is also called the devil and Satan. Jesus called him a liar and the father of lies (Revelation 12:9; John 8:44).
The first thing Satan asked Adam and Eve was, “Did God really say that?” It is the same question the liar will ask you every time you are tempted to sin: “Did God really say not to do that?”
Then the father of lies will say to you, “What you are about to do isn’t that big of a deal. Besides God really wants you to be happy.”
Believing and submitting to the lies of the evil one brings separation and death, not happiness and contentment. When Adam and Eve submitted to the serpent, they were separated from God; they lost the privilege of walking with God in the cool of the day.
The rest of Scripture is about God restoring His relationship with people. It is the love story of God doing everything—even dying for you—so you can be in an intimate relationship with Him.
Do not let Satan tempt you to doubt God and His Word. Did God really say He died for you, so you can live for Him? Yes! Does Jesus really forgive your sins and remember them no more? Yes! Does God really want to walk and talk with you every moment of every day? Yes! Walk with God in truth and do not be deceived by the evil one.
Pray Genesis 3:8 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD God, when _________ and I hear the sound of You
walking in the garden of our lives in the cool of the day,
may we come to You and never hide from You.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 2 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 2.
Meditate on verse 4.

This is the account of the heavens and the earth
when they were created,
in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.

Genesis 2:1-3 completes the story of God’s creation week. Genesis 2:4 begins with a phrase repeated throughout Genesis: “This is the account of ...” It is the Hebrew word towledah; and it literally means “these are the generations ...” This phrase is also in Genesis 5:1; 6:9; 10:1, 32; 11:10, 27; 25:12, 19; 36:1, 9, and 37:2.
Genesis 1-2 sets up an important pattern for the rest of the book. Genesis is organized by genealogies, followed by an elaboration on a section of the genealogy. Genesis 1 is the genealogy of creation. Genesis 2 gives more details focusing on the creation of man—part of the genealogy. The remainder of Genesis is written using this pattern: a genealogy will be given followed by a detailed story about one family from the genealogy.
Genesis is the story of God creating and establishing families. It is beautifully written by the One who perfectly created you and is currently writing your story. As you spend the rest of the year reading God’s story about families, pray for His miraculous creative work in the families for whom you are praying.
Pray Genesis 2:20 and 24-25 over married couples for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, make ________ a suitable helper for _________.

Let them leave their father and mother and be joined to each other.
May they become one flesh.
Let them be naked
with each other and not ashamed.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Genesis 1 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Genesis 1.
Meditate on verse 1a.

In the beginning God…

The most important thing you will ever think is what you think about God.
For what you think about God will determine every other aspect of your life.
—Dr. D. Jeffrey Bingham

What you think about Genesis chapter one will determine how you think about every other page of God’s Holy Word.

Please answer these questions:

*Who is the only eyewitness to creation?
            *Whose account is Genesis 1?
*Who said six times, “There was evening and there was morning, one day”
                        (Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31)?

The answer to all three questions is: God. God was the only one present at His creation of the world. He was the eyewitness to what took place 6000 years ago. He spoke the world into existence. He confirmed that truth in John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-17, and Hebrews 1:1-3, and He gave the added insight that Jesus is the Word of God who spoke. God is the definer of a day, and He told you six times exactly how long a day is.
Why would anyone dare question God’s eyewitness account of what He alone did? What do you think of someone who questions or adds to a story you are telling when they weren’t even at the event?
As a follower of the Creator of the universe, Jesus Christ, it is important to take His first recorded words literally. If you choose not to, you handle carelessly the rest of His Words, conveniently deciding which ones apply to your life and which ones do not.
Pray Genesis 1:2-3 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“God, apart from You, _________
and I are formless and void,

and darkness is over us.

Spirit of God, move over our lives.
God, speak Light into us.

In Your name, Jesus~”
