2 Samuel 17 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Samuel 17.

Meditate on verse 14.

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said,

“The counsel of Hushai the Arechite is

better than the counsel of Ahithophel.”

For the LORD had ordained to thwart

the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the

LORD might bring calamity on Absalom.

Observe God’s sovereignty in this chapter.  Ahithophel gave Absalom a battle plan for overthrowing David.  His advice would have secured the throne for Absalom, but Absalom’s ego took over his better judgment, and he chose the advice of Hushai to personally fight his father.  Absalom’s choice was actually part of God’s plan to ultimately secure and establish David’s kingdom forever (2 Samuel 7:13).

God’s sovereignty in preserving David’s kingdom continued with the birth and death of Jesus.  Through “the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God,” Jesus was “nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put to death” (Acts 2:23).  When “God raised Him up again” (Acts 2:24), His promise to David was fulfilled; David’s Descendant was indeed forever on the throne (Acts 2:30).

God’s plans were “formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness” (Isaiah 25:1).   Trust Him for the plans He has for your life.

Use 2 Samuel 17:14 to submit to God’s ordained plans.

“LORD, I trust what You have ordained.

Thwart what needs to be thwarted

in order to be in Your will.

In Your name, Jesus~
