Please read Hosea 10.
Meditate on verses 12.
Sow with a view to righteousness;
reap in accordance with kindness;
break up your fallow ground,
for it is time to seek the LORD
until He comes to rain righteousness on you.
Baal worship
was taking its toll on the people. They had been prosperous, but they had not
used their wealth to glorify God. Instead, they used it to produce more idol
worship. God would destroy them and their worship; they would realize how
foolish it was to trust in Baal.
In the
middle of a chapter of warnings and judgments is the message of hope. “Break up
your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD...” (Hosea 10:12).
Fallow
ground is land that is normally used for crops but has been left unplowed and
unplanted. Breaking up the fallow ground means to plow the land, turn the soil,
and remove the weeds. It means to prepare the land for planting. In Jeremiah
4:3, God told the people of Judah to break up the fallow ground and not rush to
plant seeds among the thistles.
What a great
message! Are there unused parts of your life that are fallow grounds, areas
where God can change you and bear fruit through you? Are you practicing your
spiritual gifts among the believers at a local church? Is there more of your
money that God can use to further the Kingdom? Are there parts of your heart
and mind that used to belong to the LORD, but have been given over to the
thistles—the sins of this world? Break the fallow ground; ask God to help you
change your life to be fruitful for His pleasure, His Kingdom’s work, and His
relationship with you.
Pray Hosea
10:12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful
watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD,
help _______ and me to sow
with a view
to Your righteousness.
Let us
reap in accordance with Your kindness.
Break up
our fallow ground! Help us to seek You, LORD!
Come and rain righteousness on us.
For the
sake of Your name, Jesus~”
