Psalm 5 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 5.
Meditate on verse 3.

In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice;
in the morning, I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

David had an intimate relationship with the LORD.  He knew God, and he knew he could talk to Him about anything and confidently wait for God’s response to issues that were troubling him.

As you read through Psalms, you may want to make a list of what you learn about the LORD.  The Psalms are full of the characteristics of God.  Knowing God increases your faith and makes you like David, able to talk to the LORD about everything.

Notice God’s attitude toward wickedness in Psalm 5:4-6:
1.     He does not take pleasure in wickedness.
2.     No evil dwells with God.
3.     The boastful will not stand before God’s eyes.
4.     The LORD hates all who do iniquity.
5.     He destroys those who speak falsehood.
6.     The LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.

Do any of these attributes and actions of God surprise you?  What is your response to your LORD?

Notice David’s response to God.  Because of the LORD’s abundant lovingkindness, David came into God’s presence and bowed in reverence to Him (Psalm 5:7).  David knew God hated evil, so he asked the LORD to lead him in righteousness (Psalm 5:8).
He appealed to God for the removal of his enemies (Psalm 5:10).

Pray Psalm 5:11-12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, ________ and I take refuge in You; let us be glad.
Let us ever sing for joy.
Shelter us, LORD!
We love Your name; may we exult in You.
You bless the righteous person, O LORD.
Surround us with Your favor as with a shield.
In Your name, Jesus~”
