Hebrews 10 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 10.
Meditate on verses 19-23.

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence
to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way which He inaugurated
for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
and since we have a great high priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience
and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful.

The old covenant Law was only a shadow of the new covenant salvation in Jesus Christ.  For 1500 years, imperfect Jewish priests offered sacrifices over and over for the cleansing of sins.  Daily offering the blood of bulls and goats time after time did not take away sins, and it did not perfect the people.  God instituted this seemingly futile sacrificial system to show people their need for a Savior.  Trying time after time to do something to please God to save yourself is futilely exhausting.  You desperately need a Savior; you need Jesus.

The sacrifice of Jesus Christ did amazing things for you:
1.     You get forgiveness of all your sins and lawless deeds.
2.     You have confidence to enter the Holy Place (the presence of God).
3.     You have a great Priest (Jesus).
4.     You can draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.
5.     Your heart has been sprinkled clean from an evil conscience.
6.     Your body has been washed with pure water.
7.     You can hold fast to your confession of hope in Jesus Christ without wavering.
BECAUSE JESUS WHO MADE THESE PROMISES TO YOU IS FAITHFUL!

Jesus did everything for you.  All you have to do is have faith in the Faithful One.

Pray Hebrews 10:35-36 and 38-39 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help _________ and me not throw away our confidence in You
because it has a great reward.
Give us endurance in doing Your will,
so we may receive the promise.
Make us righteous.
May we live by faith.
Do not let us shrink back.
We want Your soul to find pleasure in us.
Lord, do not let us be like those who shrink back to destruction.
Make us like those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
Because of Your faithfulness, Jesus~”

Hebrews 9 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 9.
Meditate on verse 28.

So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many,
will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin,
to those who eagerly await Him.

Well, the news about this covenant in Jesus Christ gets better and better.  Not only is God merciful to your iniquities remembering them no more, when He returns to take you out of this world, He will make no reference to your sin.  What a relief is that?  If you are eagerly awaiting the return of Christ, He is not going to mention anything you have done wrong when He comes back.  Jesus Christ became your sin, so you could become His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).  His blood so completely covers yours sins that Jesus refuses to remember your very sins that killed Him.  If that is not enough, His blood even cleanses your conscience from dead works so you can serve Him.

Jesus does not remember your sins, so why are you allowing the guilt and shame of your past paralyze you and keep you from serving the Living God.  Let God cleanse your conscience of all the dead junk from your past, so you can serve your Savior for the rest of eternity.  Do not neglect your so great a salvation (Hebrews 2:3)!

Pray Hebrews 9:14 and 28 over yourself and those for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Christ, by Your blood,
through Your eternal Spirit,
cleanse __________ and my conscience
from dead works to serve You, our living God.
Thank You for bearing our sins.
Thank You that when You appear a second time for salvation,
You will not reference our sin,
if we eagerly await You.
God, please cause ____________ to eagerly await You.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Hebrews 8 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 8.
Meditate on verse 12.

For I will be merciful to their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.

The writer of Hebrews sums up the first seven chapters of this letter in Hebrews 8:1-2.  “Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.”

God wanted the Jewish believers to know that in Christ they were in a better covenant relationship than what they had under the old covenant.  Jesus was their high priest; He was in the position of authority on the throne of God, and He was ministering on their behalf in the true tabernacle built by God instead of their earthly tabernacle that was about to be destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD and has yet to be rebuilt.

God wants you to know these truths as well.  The old covenant consists of 613 laws that are impossible to perfectly keep.  In the new covenant of Chris Jesus, God’s laws are written on your mind and heart, and you are able to know God and be His people.  And amazingly, under the new covenant, God is merciful to your iniquities and remembers your sins no more.  What an amazing salvation God offers you!

God warns you at the beginning of this letter not to neglect so great a salvation (Hebrews 2:3).  Jesus has mediated a better covenant with better promises on your behalf.  Why would anyone not want to be part of this covenant of salvation in Christ Jesus?

Pray Hebrews 8:10-12 over someone for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, put Your laws into the mind of ___________.
Write them on their heart.
Please become their God,
and let them become your people.
Let them know You.
Be merciful to their iniquities
and remember their sins no more.

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

Hebrews 7 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 7.
Meditate on verse 25.

Therefore He (Jesus) is able also to save forever
those who draw near to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Notice the doctrines of God in Hebrews 7:26-28.  Jesus is:

                                    *High Priest
                                    *Holy
                                    *Innocent
                                    *Undefiled
                                    *Separated from sinners
                                    *Exalted above the heavens
*Does not need to daily offer sacrifices because He offered up
Himself once for all for your sins
                                    *Perfect forever

Amazingly, your perfect, holy, undefiled Savior lives to intercede for you.  Jesus is compared to Melchizedek, a priest and king in the days of Abraham (Genesis 14:18-20).  Melchizedek was a priest before God established the Jewish law or the priestly system.  He has no recorded genealogy in the Bible and no record of his birth or death.  He was a picture for the Israelites of Messiah.  Melchizedek even brought bread and wine to Abraham.  God was giving His people a picture of Christ 2000 years before Jesus came to Earth.

The writer of Hebrews wanted to teach his readers about Melchizedek in chapter 5, but stopped because they were dull of hearing.  He decided to explain Melchizedek in chapter 7 anyway.  God knew you would have ears to hear.

Jesus, who is a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek, is constantly putting in a good word for you, if you belong to Him.  Satan wants to condemn you, but when you are in Christ, he cannot because Jesus always lives to intercede on your behalf.  In Christ, you can boldly run to the Father because the Son of God is talking favorably about you to Him.

Pray Hebrews 7:25 over someone for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Jesus, please let __________ draw near to God through You.
Save them forever.
Thank You for always living to make intercession for us.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Hebrews 6 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 6.
Meditate on verses 19-20a.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul,
a hope both sure and steadfast
and one which enters within the veil,
where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us …

When rain falls, it waters an entire piece of land.  The land uses the water and either produces useful vegetation or worthless thorns and thistles.  God penned, through the writer of Hebrews, this comparison to explain the work of the Holy Spirit.  Every person on Earth partakes of the blessings of the Holy Spirit and tastes the good Word of God.  Like rain-watered ground, each individual chooses what to do with those blessings.  Every person must choose to either receive the blessings of God resulting in salvation or to fall away from the Truth.  Refusing the Holy Spirit results in no repentance.  If a person refuses Christ’s work on the cross, then, like thorns and thistles, their life is worthless, cursed, and will end up being burned.

BUT, if your life gives evidence of salvation, then you have full assurance of hope until the end.  The hope you have in Christ is the anchor of your soul; it is a sure and steadfast hope because Jesus runs before you to God the Father announcing your arrival into the presence of Almighty God forever.  This is truth from the Word of God, and it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18).  Thank You, LORD!

Pray Hebrews 6:11-12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help _______ and me show diligence in our salvation
so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end.
Do not let us be sluggish,
but help us be imitators of those
who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Hebrews 5 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 5.
Meditate on verse 12.

For though by this time you ought to be teachers,
you have need again for someone to teach you
the elementary principles of the oracles of God,
and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Hebrews is a meaty book.  It contains many doctrines (truths) of God.  Hebrews was originally written to Jewish Christians to teach that they no longer needed an earthly priest to offer sacrifices for their sins.  Jesus fulfilled the old covenant laws; He was perfect.  Jesus became to everyone who obeys Him the source of eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9).

The writer of Hebrews wanted to explain to his readers many deep things about the Oracles of God, but they could not stomach such rich teaching.  They were not accustomed to the Word of Righteousness (Hebrews 5:12-13).

Are you accustomed to the Word of God?  Because of use, are you familiar with the Bible?  Is it your holy habit to read and study the Word of Righteousness?  Or is God addressing you when He says, “You ought to be teaching My Word by now, but instead, you need someone teaching you My elementary principles.  You have come to need the milk of My Word.  You are unable to handle the solid food of My Oracles.”?

Pray Hebrews 5:13-14 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help _________ and me stop being infants,
partaking only of the milk of Your Word.
May we become accustomed to Your Word of Righteousness.
Make us mature in You, so we can eat solid food.
Help us practice eating the solid food of Your Word.
Train our senses to discern good and evil.
In Your name, Jesus~”

Hebrews 4 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read Hebrews 4.
Meditate on verses 15-16.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Are you tired and worn out?  Do the struggles of life have you feeling exhausted?  God mentioned rest fourteen times in Hebrews 3 and 4.  God really wants you to enter into His rest.  Believing God gives you access to His rest.  Hearing the Word of God and by faith, believing the Good News, results in God’s rest for your life.  Doing good works will not bring God’s rest.  Works make you tired.  There is nothing good enough to get you to God except Jesus Christ.  Simply believe and acknowledge Christ; anything else is disobedience from a hard heart, which thinks it has a better way than God’s way.

Reread Hebrews 3 and 4.  Ask God to give you insight with understanding into His Word.  The Lord wants you to be able to experience His rest here on Earth as well as in Heaven.  Doing good works does not give you favor with God.  Jesus gives you favor with God.  Jesus is the High Priest who gives you mercy and grace.  Draw near with confidence to God, today.  You will find rest for your weary soul.

Pray Hebrews 4:12-13 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“God, Your Word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.
Let it pierce _______________ and my soul and spirit.
Divide our joints and marrow.
Judge the thoughts and intentions of our hearts.
Let us hold fast our confession of You,
Jesus, the Son of God, our Great High Priest.
In whose name I pray~”
