Meditate on verse 3.
In the fortieth year, on the first
day of the eleventh month,
Moses spoke to the children
of Israel, according to all
that the LORD had commanded
him to give to them.
You will spend the next 34 days reading the last words of Moses before his death. They are the words God commanded him to speak to the children of Israel before they entered the promised land. The words might sound familiar to you because Moses spoke them 40 years earlier as recorded in Exodus and Leviticus, but they had to be repeated because the members of this audience were children, or not yet born, when they were first spoken. And, the fathers and grandfathers who should have taught these words to their families were dead because of disobedience (vs. 26-36).
As you take God’s words to heart, ask Him to bring to your remembrance His faithfulness throughout your life. Teach the younger ones in your realm of influence about God, His Word, and how to live pleasing to Him.
Moses prayed a blessing over this younger generation (v. 11). Pray it over those for whom you stand guard as their faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, You are God of ________ and me.
Please increase us a thousand-fold and
bless us just as You have promised.
In Your name, Jesus~”
