Numbers 4 - Praying God's Word

Please read Numbers 4.

Meditate on verse 49.

According to the commandment

 of the LORD through Moses,

they were numbered, everyone

by his serving or carrying;

 thus, these were his numbered men,

just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

God gave 8,580 Levites from the Kohath, Gershon, and Merari families the holy task of carrying (vs. 47-48).  They carried things like firepans, forks, shovels, curtains, boards, bars, pillars, and sockets (vs. 14, 31).  God devoted 100 verses to their job descriptions and to numbering these servants set apart for Him (Numbers 3:1-4:49).  God takes very seriously the carrying of His things.

What or whom has the LORD asked you to carry?  Perhaps it is an aging parent or a child who needs special nurturing.  Perhaps He has tasked you with carrying the chairs to set up for a Bible study or worship event.  Or, maybe He has called you to carry the trash out of your church or home.  Be encouraged by the emphasis God places in His Word on numbering the Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites for the express purpose of carrying.

Using the words from Numbers 4:49, commit yourself to be one of God’s servers and carriers.  Pray the words over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, according to Your commandment, please

 include _________ and me in Your number to serve

 and carry just as You command.

In Your name, Jesus~”
