Genesis 5 - Praying God's Word

Chapter 5 is the second recorded genealogy in Genesis. The first is in Genesis 1-2:3, the genealogy of creation.  Don’t be tempted to skip genealogy chapters in the Bible because they, too, have treasure verses to pray.

Genesis 5 contains the story of one of my favorite Bible heroes, Enoch.  He began walking with God when he was 65 years old, after he became the father of Methuselah (vs. 21-22).  From that point, walking with God was the beginning and the end of his story.  No other detail was needed except the fact that Enoch so lived life with God that his sentence in the genealogy does not end with “and he died” like every other man listed in the chapter.  “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (v. 24).

It was as if God and Enoch were walking together, and the day came when God said, “You know, Enoch, today we really are closer to My house than yours; let’s go spend the rest of eternity there.”

Wow!  What an amazing biography!  What an amazing epitaph!

________________ Walked With God.

Pray Genesis 5:24 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“God, let ________ and me walk with You.

In Your name, Jesus~”
