1 Timothy 4 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Timothy 4.

Meditate on verse 7b.

Discipline yourself for the purpose of Godliness.
Paul warned Timothy that in later times some will fall away from the truth because they are paying attention to and being deceived by spirits and doctrines of demons. Today, witches, zombies, vampires, and walking dead things fascinate many. These topics are not merely adult entertainment, but are in children’s books, movies, and television shows.
God says in 1 Timothy 4:2 that doctrines of demons are propagated by the hypocrisy of liars and will sear your conscience as with a branding iron when you choose to pay attention to them. Do not be deceived! If you are a Christian, you are part of the church of the living God, and you are to be a pillar and support of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Are you disciplining yourself for the purpose of Godliness, or are you allowing yourself to be disciplined by the demonic? Do you spend any moment of the day in the doctrines of demons? Do you allow your children to read, watch, or in any way be involved in things that are part of the deceit of Satan?
Paul told Timothy to keep on commanding and teaching the Word of God. God is telling you to be absorbed in Scripture, to teach and exhort the Bible. The world is absorbed in lies; you must live and speak the Truth of God.
Pray 1 Timothy 4:7 and 11-16 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, let ______ and me have
nothing to do with worldly fables.

Instead, help us discipline ourselves for the purpose of Godliness.
Let us fix our hope on You, the living God and Savior of all men.
In our speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity,

may we show ourselves an example of those who believe.
Help us give attention to the reading of Scripture,

to the exhortation and teaching of the Word.

Do not let us neglect the spiritual gift within us.

Help us practice and immerse ourselves in the things of You, God,
so that our progress will be evident to all.

Help us pay close attention to ourselves

and persevere in Your things, LORD.

In Your name, Jesus~”
