Please read Proverbs 6.
Meditate on verses 20 and
23.
My son, observe the commandment of your father,
and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.
For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light;
and reproofs for discipline are the way of life.
Proverbs 6 has sets of
truth on different subjects that make excellent prayers for you and those you
love.
Proverbs 6:1-5 is about
not making yourself responsible for paying another’s debt. Maybe you know
someone who needs prayer to make wise business deals with others or who needs
wisdom about co-signing for someone.
The words of Proverbs
6:6-11 address laziness and hard work. Pray for those in your life who are lazy
and do not want to work. Ask God to give strength for those around them to not
support this sinful behavior.
In Proverbs 6:12-19,
characteristics and behaviors of wicked people are revealed. The section ends
with a list of these wicked behaviors which God hates. “There are six things
the LORD hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
1. Haughty eyes
2. A lying tongue
3. Hands that shed
innocent blood
4. A heart that devises
wicked plans
5. Feet that run rapidly
to evil
6. A false witness who
utters lies
7. One who spreads strife
among brothers.”
The chapter concludes with
the consequences of adultery.
Verses 20-23 are placed
between the passages about wicked people and adultery. The words are filled
with the benefits of keeping the LORD’s commands in your heart continually.
Pray Proverbs 6:20-23 over
yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman
(Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, help and me
to observe Your commandments and not forsake Your teachings.
Bind them continually on our heart and tie them around our neck.
Thank You, LORD, that they will guide us when we walk,
watch over us when we sleep, and talk to us when we awake.
May we make Your commandments and
teachings our lamp and light.
Let us receive Godly reproofs to discipline us on Your way of life.
In Your name, Jesus~”
