Please read Proverbs 4.
Meditate on verses 3-4.
When I was a son to my father,
tender and the only son in the sight of
my mother,
then he taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.”
This chapter begins with
insight into the words of Solomon to his son. These were words his father David
gave him. They were words David believed would help Solomon walk in the paths
of righteousness.
In Proverbs 4:11-13,
Solomon said he led his son in upright paths. Because the son was directed and
led by his father, his walking and running would not be impeded. He was not
going to stumble.
The words of Proverbs
4:14-17 are about avoiding the path of evil. Do not follow the way of wicked
and evil men. Turn away from this path. This path is inhabited with people who
cannot be satisfied until you stumble.
In Proverbs 4:18-19, the
contrast between the paths of righteousness and evil is illustrated. The
righteous path gets brighter and brighter like the rising sun. The path of evil
only leads to blind darkness.
The chapter closes with
the father continuing to admonish his son to stay on the righteous path.
Let your eyes look directly ahead, and let your
gaze be fixed straight
in front of you.
Watch the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established.
Do not turn to the right nor the left; turn your foot from evil.
—Proverbs 4:25-27
There are four important
Biblical truths found in Proverbs 4.
Men should train their children in the ways of God.
Good and evil are real and very different.
You are responsible for the steps in life you
choose to take.
Choose the way of righteousness, and you will be
established in your ways.
Pray
Proverbs 4:5 and 26-27 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a
faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, may not
forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Establish and me
in Your ways and paths.
Keep us from turning to the left or the
right;
keep our feet from evil.
In Your name, Jesus~”
