2 Timothy 2 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read 2 Timothy 2.
Meditate on verse 1.

You therefore, my son,
be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Timothy needed to be reminded of many things, and Paul wanted him to consider those things.  Timothy needed to ponder and think about the truth of God.  He needed to remember Jesus Christ and remind others of Godly things (2 Timothy 2:7, 8, 14).

What are you pondering today?  What occupies your thoughts?  Is it the Word of Truth, the Bible, or is it the worries and cares of life?  Pondering your worries will not change your circumstances or the circumstances of others.  Considering, sharing, and praying the Word of God will change life situations.  There are many treasure verses to pray over your loved ones from 2 Timothy 2.  Find the ones you need to pray and occupy yourself with those verses today.

Pray 2 Timothy 2:15-16 and 22-25 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Lord, help _______ and me to be diligent to present ourselves
approved unto You as workmen who do not need to be ashamed.
Help us accurately handle the Word of Truth.
Let us avoid worldly and empty chatter,
for it will lead to further ungodliness.
Let us flee youthful lusts and pursue
 righteousness, faith, love, and peace
with those who call on You from a pure heart.
Help us refuse foolish and ignorant speculations,
knowing that they produce quarrels.
Make us Your bond-servants who are not quarrelsome,
but kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,
gently correcting those who are in opposition.

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

2 Timothy 1 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read 2 Timothy 1.
Meditate on verse 7.

God has not given us a spirit of timidity,
but of power and love and discipline.

Paul’s first letter to Timothy was filled with instructions for leading the church in Ephesus.  A few years passed since Timothy received that letter; now Paul’s beloved son in the faith needed a letter of personal encouragement.

Even a faithful bond-servant of Christ gets discouraged at times.  So although Paul was close to death, imprisoned as a criminal in Rome because of Jesus, and rejected by many of his friends, he wrote this letter to exhort and encourage Timothy.

There are at least 30 exhortations from Paul to Timothy in this letter, commands to be strong and diligent, to remember Jesus, to do certain things and to avoid doing other things.  They are wise words from a concerned spiritual father, and they are words from a loving Heavenly Father to you.

No matter what is happening to you right now, remember God has saved you and given you a holy calling for His purposes (2 Timothy 1:9).  Read this letter in its entirety, as if it were a letter written personally to you, because it truly is.  Be encouraged by your Lord, today.

Pray 2 Timothy 1:6-9 and 14 over yourself and those for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Lord, help __________ and me to kindle afresh Your gift within us.
Thank You for not giving us a spirit of timidity,
but of power and love and discipline.
Let us not be ashamed of Your testimony, Lord.
Let us not forget that You have saved us
and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works,
but according to Your own purpose and grace
which was granted us in You, Christ Jesus from all eternity.
Holy Spirit, who dwells in us,
guard the treasure which has been entrusted to us.

Because of Your name, Jesus~”

1 Timothy 6 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read 1 Timothy 6.
Meditate on verses 20-21.

O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you,
avoiding worldly and empty chatter
and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—
which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith.
Grace be with you.

Paul closed his letter to Timothy with a plea to guard the Truth entrusted to him.  Paul knew believing ideas in opposition to God’s Word caused people to stray from true faith in God.

Insert your name in place of Timothy in the verses above.  “O ___________, guard what has been entrusted to you…”

God is begging you to avoid what the world calls “knowledge.”  If what you are reading and learning is in opposition to the Bible, it is a lie.  God’s Word is timeless Truth; hold fast the Word of Life, so you will not be deceived by the liar and father of lies (Philippians 2:16; John 8:44).

Pray 1 Timothy 6:4-5, 11-12 over yourself and those for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Lord, let _________ and me flee from controversial questions,
disputes about words, envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,
and constant friction between men of depraved mind deprived of the truth.
Help us flee from those who oppose Godliness as a means of gain.
Let us pursue righteousness, Godliness,
faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
Let us fight the good fight of faith
and take hold of the eternal life to which we were called.
Because of Your name, Jesus~”

1 Timothy 5 - Praying Scripture

Please read 1 Timothy 5.
Meditate on verse 22b.

Keep yourself free from sin.

God’s Word is so practical.   In this part of Paul’s letter to Timothy, specific principles were given for men and women of all ages and in various life situations: married, widowed, leading a church, dealing with sin, and working with others.  Paul even addressed stomach ailments.  God cares about every detail of your life, and He wants you to live the plans and purposes He has for you.

Most of God’s will for your life is contained in the Bible.  Remain faithful to study and live His Word.

Pray 1 Timothy 5:21-22 over yourself and those for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“God, may ________ and I maintain Your principles.
Let us do nothing in a spirit of partiality.
Do not let us share in the sins of others;
keep us free from sin.
In Your name, Jesus~”

1 Timothy 4 ~ Praying Scripture

Please read 1 Timothy 4.
Meditate on verse 7b.

Discipline yourself for the purpose of Godliness.

Paul warns Timothy that in later times some will fall away from the truth because they are paying attention to and being deceived by spirits and doctrines of demons.  Today, witches, zombies, vampires, and walking dead things fascinate many.  These topics are not merely adult entertainment, but are in children’s books, movies, and television shows.

God says in 1 Timothy 4:2 that doctrines of demons are propagated by the hypocrisy of liars and will sear your conscience as with a branding iron when you choose to pay attention to them.  Do not be deceived!  If you are a Christian, you are part of the church of the living God, and you are to be a pillar and support of the Truth (1 Timothy 3:15).  Are you disciplining yourself for the purpose of Godliness, or are you allowing yourself to be disciplined by the demonic?  Do you spend any moment of the day in the doctrine of demons?  Do you allow your children to read, watch, or in any way be involved in things that are part of the deceit of Satan?

Paul told Timothy to keep on commanding and teaching the Word of God.  God is telling you to be absorbed in Scripture, to teach and exhort the Bible.  The world is absorbed in lies; you must live and speak the Truth of God.

Pray 1 Timothy 4:7, 11-16 over yourself and those for whom you are standing guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Lord, let _________ and me have nothing to do with worldly fables.
Instead, help us discipline ourselves for the purpose of Godliness.
Let us fix our hope on You, the living God and Savior of all men.
In our speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity,
may we show ourselves an example of those who believe.
Help us give attention to the reading of Scripture,
to the exhortation and teaching of the Word.
Do not let us neglect the spiritual gift within us.
Help us practice and immerse ourselves in the things of You, God,
so that our progress will be evident to all.
Help us pay close attention to ourselves
and persevere in Your things, Lord.
In Your name, Jesus~”
