Meditate on verse 8.
Let them construct a sanctuary for Me,
that I may dwell among them.
Exodus 25:8 is the first time sanctuary is mentioned in the Bible. It means a “holy place.”1 Since the beginning of creation, God desired to live with people. When sin entered the world, God, who is perfect, could no longer live among sinful humans. Yet, His desire did not change, and the construction of the sanctuary/tabernacle provided a way for God to dwell among His people. As you continue to read Exodus, you will learn what is required for humans to live with their Creator.
Each piece of furniture in the tabernacle was a picture and foreshadowing of Jesus Christ. For example, the tabernacle contained a table with the bread of the Presence (v. 30). Jesus is “the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever” (John 6:51).
As you continue to read about the tabernacle, ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you, thanking Him for dwelling with you.
Pray Exodus 25:8, 22, and 30-31 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, make ________ and me a sanctuary
for You; dwell among us. Meet with us and
speak to us about all Your commandments.
Jesus, be the bread of the Presence
and the lampstand of our lives.
In Your name, Jesus~”
