Meditate on verse 1.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God,
to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God,
which is your spiritual service of worship.
Chapter 12 is the pinnacle of Romans. Up to this point, Paul stated the facts about God and salvation. He answered questions about who God is, why He hates sin, what God does about sin, and how He saves. He explained how God chooses you to be in a saving relationship with Him through Jesus Christ and how He keeps you from sinning.
Romans 12:1 begins with the word, “therefore.” Therefore refers you back to everything you know about God and yourself from Romans 1-11. Because of who God is and everything you have and are in Him, give yourself completely and sacrificially to the LORD. Giving yourself to God is the only thing that makes sense in light of everything He has done for you.
The rest of the chapter is a list of about 40 actions and attributes that typify those who have offered themselves as a holy sacrifice to God. You could take a phrase or two a day and ask the LORD to make it more evident in your life. For example, “LORD, help me to abhor what is evil and cling to what is good” (Romans 12:9).
The remaining chapters of Romans will teach you practical ways to live your life as a follower of the LORD Jesus Christ.
Pray Romans 12:1-2 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD, help __________ and me to present our bodies
as living and holy sacrifices acceptable to You,
which is our spiritual service of worship.
Do not let us be conformed to this world,
but let us be transformed
by the renewing of our minds,
so that we may prove what Your will is, God,
that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
In Your name, Jesus~”
