Please read Hebrews 8.
Meditate on verse 12.
For I will be merciful to their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.
The writer
of Hebrews sums up the first seven chapters of this letter in Hebrews 8:1-2:
Now the
main point in what has been said is this:
we have
such a high priest, who has taken His seat
at the
right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the
sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the LORD pitched, not man.
God wanted
the Jewish believers to know that in Christ they were in a better covenant
relationship than what they had under the Old Covenant. Jesus was their high
priest; He was in the position of authority on the throne of God, and He was
ministering on their behalf in the true tabernacle built by God instead of
their earthly tabernacle that was about to be destroyed by the Romans in 70
A.D. and has yet to be rebuilt.
God wants
you to know these truths as well. The Old Covenant consists of 613 laws that are
impossible to perfectly keep. In the New Covenant of Christ Jesus, God’s laws
are written on your mind and heart, and you are able to know God and be His
people. Under the New Covenant, God is merciful to your iniquities and
remembers your sins no more. What an amazing salvation God offers you!
God warns
you at the beginning of this letter not to neglect so great a salvation
(Hebrews 2:3). Jesus has mediated a better covenant with better promises on
your behalf. Why would anyone not want to be part of this covenant of salvation
in Christ Jesus?
Pray Hebrews
8:10-12 over someone for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman
(Isaiah 62:6-7).
“LORD,
put Your laws into the mind of _________.
Write
them on their heart.
Please
become their God,
and let them become your people.
Let them
know You.
Be
merciful to their iniquities
and remember their sins no more.
For the
sake of Your name, Jesus~”
