Psalm 25 ~ Praying God's Word

Please read Psalm 25.
Meditate on verse 14.

The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him,
and He will make them know His covenant.

This is the first time covenant is used in the Psalms.  In Hebrew, the language of the Old Testament, beriyth is the word for covenant.  Beriyth is the ancient practice of solemnifying a promise between two people by passing between an animal that has been cut in half and saying these words: “If I break the promise I am making with you, may what happened to this animal or worse happen to me.”

Covenants are serious.  If you are in a covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ (John 14:6), then God takes His relationship with you very seriously.  Because of covenant, you can pray Psalm 25 with confidence like David did.  God keeps His covenant promises; therefore:

1.     God pardons your iniquity (v. 11).
2.     God remembers His compassion and lovingkindness toward you (v. 6).
3.     God protects you (v.15).
4.     God is intimate with you (v.14).

Pray Psalm 25:4-7 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Make _______ and me know Your ways, O LORD;
 teach us Your paths.  Lead us in Your truth and teach us.
 For You are the God of our salvation; for You we wait all the day.
Remember, O LORD, Your compassion and Your lovingkindness,
 for they have been from of old.
 Do not remember the sins of our youth or our transgressions;
 according to Your lovingkindness, remember us.
For Your goodness’ sake, LORD Jesus~”

*Observe covenant as you read God’s Word.  It is an important repeated word throughout Scripture.  Covenant weaves the Bible together; it is the heart of God the Father, and covenant is the reason you can be in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

(I, Marsha Harvell, wrote The Covenant Maker: Knowing God and His Promises for Salvation and Marriage to help people better understand the concept of covenant.
