Jeremiah 28 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 28.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/28/1/s_773001

Meditate on verse 15.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said

to Hananiah the prophet,

“Listen now, Hananiah, the

LORD has not sent you,

 and you have made this

 people trust in a lie.”

Jeremiah was preaching the yoke sermon when another prophet, Hananiah, started preaching a false yoke sermon.  Hananiah preached what the people wanted to hear instead of the truth of God’s Word.  He told the people their exile to Babylon would last a brief two years then everything would be back to normal.  Hananiah even took the yoke off of Jeremiah’s neck and broke it.  God told Jeremiah to tell Hananiah his false prophecy would put the people into yokes of iron, and he would be dead within that year because he had counseled rebellion against the LORD (vs. 1-17).

Hear and heed the Word of the LORD (Jeremiah 13:15)!  Appraise what you hear and read by the Word of God.  Are you trusting in the truth of the Bible, or are you trusting in a lie?  Ironclad bondage occurs when you do not hear the true Word from God.

Use Jeremiah 28:15-16 to pray for God’s protection from the “Hananiahs,” for yourself and those whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, protect _________ and me from

 false prophets like Hananiah,

prophets that You have not sent.

Do not let us trust in a lie.

Let us not listen to anyone who would

 counsel rebellion against You, LORD.

For Your name’s sake, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 27 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 27.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/27/1/s_772001

Meditate on verse 5.  God is speaking.

I have made the earth, the men, and the beasts

which are on the face of the earth

by My great power and by My outstretched arm,

and I will give it to the one who is pleasing in My sight.

God gave Jeremiah a sermon to preach with bonds and yokes on his neck (vs. 1-2). The main point of the sermon was God would give the land to one pleasing in His sight, and the people were to serve whom God chose.  God chose Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.  He was a terrorist ruler who tortured and murdered his enemies (2 Kings 25).  God was pleased to use this man to punish His people for refusing to hear and heed His Word.

As Jeremiah preached God’s Word, false prophets told the people they would not serve the king of Babylon (v. 9).  However, God’s Word prevailed, and He used Nebuchadnezzar to subdue and bring His people back in line with His will.

Are you or someone you love in a yoke and bond situation?  What is the LORD teaching you?  Is He drawing you out of sin and into a right relationship with Him? Jesus Himself said, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me” (Matthew 11:29a).

Pray Jeremiah 27:5 and 12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, You have made the earth, the men, and the beasts

which are on the face of the earth by Your great

 power and outstretched arm.

Make _________ and me pleasing in Your sight.

Let us bring our necks under Your yoke, King Jesus,

and serve You and Your people, so we will live!

Because of Your name, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 26 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 26.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/26/1/s_771001

Meditate on verse 2.

Thus says the LORD, “Stand in the

court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all

the cities of Judah who have come to worship

in the LORD’s house all the words that I have

commanded you to speak to them.

Do not omit a word!”

Jeremiah was preaching in the court of the temple to everyone who came to worship.  God commanded him not to omit a word of his sermon!  The LORD hoped the people would listen and turn from their evil way, so He could repent of the calamity He had planned “because of their evil deeds” (vs. 2-3).

The people responded to Jeremiah’s sermon by wanting to kill him.  The priests and the prophets demanded a death sentence.  But when the city officials heard Jeremiah’s sermon, they recognized it as the Word of the LORD, and they spared his life (vs. 8-16).

How do you share God’s Word?  Do you omit the words that are not politically correct or might make someone upset?  How do you respond to God’s Word?  Are you willing to change your lifestyle, so you can experience God’s blessings instead of His wrath?

Pray Jeremiah 26:2-3 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, help _______ and me speak the Words

You command us to speak.

Do not let us omit a Word!

Help us and others listen to Your every Word.

May we desire to turn from our wicked way,

so You will repent of the calamity

which You are planning to do

because of the evil of our deeds.

For Your name’s sake, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 25 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 25.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/25/1/s_770001

Meditate on verse 30b.

The LORD will roar from on high and utter

His voice from His holy habitation;

He will roar mightily against His fold.

He will shout like those who tread the grapes,

against all the inhabitants of the earth.

At this point in Jeremiah’s ministry, he had preached the Word of the LORD for 23 years.  The people refused to listen and obey God. It was 605 BC, and the first wave of exiles was taken captive to Babylon.  God’s judgment had arrived.

The LORD also had Jeremiah preach to all the nations.  God used calamity to punish Jerusalem; the other inhabitants of the earth would not be free from God’s punishment for disobedience.  Jeremiah’s sermon illustration was a cup of the wine of the wrath of God, which all the inhabitants on earth will be forced to drink if they do not hear and heed the Word of the LORD (vs. 15-29; Revelation 19:15).

When God says He will roar “against all the inhabitants of the earth,” He is not jesting (v. 30).  In light of current world events, pray Jeremiah 25:5-6 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, may ___________ and I turn from our evil way

and from the evil of our deeds.

We want to dwell with You

in Your land forever and ever.

We will stop going after other gods

to serve and worship them.

We do not want to provoke You to anger

with the work of our hands.

LORD, do not do us harm.

Because of Your salvation, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 24 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 24.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/24/1/s_769001

Meditate on verse 7.

I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD;

and they will be My people, and I will be their God,

for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

God took Jeremiah back to His temple to preach the fig sermon. The LORD showed Jeremiah two baskets of figs; one contained very rotten figs, and the other contained very good figs (v 2). The good figs represented the people exiled to Babylon. At the time of this sermon, ten thousand Jews had recently been taken captive to Babylon (2 Kings 24:10-17). God promised to keep His eyes on them for good, to build them up, plant them, give them a heart to know Him, and bring them back to the land of Israel (vs. 5-7). Those left behind in Jerusalem were like the bad figs that were too rotten to eat. God promised to destroy them (vs. 8-10).

Which fig are you? Is God taking you through trials of exilic proportions for the purpose of building and planting you? He wants you firmly established in Him, so you will not be overthrown and plucked up. God has His eyes on you for good.

Pray Jeremiah 24:2 and 7 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, make _________ and me first-ripe, very good figs.

Do not let us be very bad, rotten figs.

Give us a heart to know You, for You are the LORD.

Make us Your people and be our God.

We return to You with our whole heart.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 23 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 23.  It describes your world.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/23/1/s_768001

Meditate on verse 28b.

Let him who has My Word speak My Word in truth.

God addressed preachers, prophets, teachers, and anyone who declared, “I have a word from the LORD.”  God is against those who prophesy false dreams and declare lies in His name (vs. 31-32).  He warned people not to claim revelation from the LORD that is actually born from “the deception of their own heart” (v. 26).

Do not be deceived!  Everything you read and hear must be filtered through the truth of the Bible.  If someone declares they have a word from the LORD, it must not contradict the LORD’s Word; if it does, that person has “perverted the Words of the living God” (v. 36).

As you continue to read and study the Bible, you will be able to discern truth from lies.  Ask God to give you His Biblical worldview.

Pray Jeremiah 23:22 and 28 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, let ________ and me announce

Your Words to Your people.

Use Your Words to turn us back from our

evil way and from the evil of our deeds.

We have Your Word; let us

 speak Your Word in truth.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Jeremiah 22 - Praying God's Word

Please read Jeremiah 22.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/jer/22/1/s_767001

Meditate on this phrase from verses 2 and 29.

Hear the Word of the LORD.

Hear the Word of the LORD!

Jeremiah’s next pulpit was at the palace of the king of Judah.  He delivered a six- point sermon.  The LORD told the king, his servants, and all the people to do the following (Jeremiah 22:3):

1.     Do justice.

2.     Do righteousness.

3.     Deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor.

4.     Do not mistreat the stranger, orphan, or widow.

5.     Do not do violence to the stranger, orphan, or widow.

6.     Do not shed innocent blood.

If the king and his people obeyed God, they would continue to have a king on the throne; if they disobeyed, God would make the palace a desolation (vs. 4-5). King Jehoiakim refused to hear and heed God’s Word. God promised him a donkey’s burial beyond the gates of Jerusalem (v. 19).
Hear the Word of the LORD! God does not want your life to be desolate. Sin desolates; obedience averts desolation. Ask God to show you areas of disobedience. Repent and commit to walk obediently with Him.

Pray the opposite of Jeremiah 22:21 to be true in your life and the lives of those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, when You speak to _________ and me, we will listen!

Forgive the practices from our youth not to obey Your voice.

Help us to practice obedience now!

Let it be the practice of our children from their youth to obey Your voice.

In Your name, Jesus~”
