Judges 2 - Praying God's Word

Please read Judges 2.

Meditate on verse 2.

And as for you, you shall make no covenant with
the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.
But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done?

Judges records vivid pictures of the consequences for refusing to drive out sin. Sin is a snare that provokes God to anger (vs. 3, 12).  His burning anger results in:

·      God giving sinners into the hands of plunderers and selling them to enemies (v. 14).

·      God’s hand being against sinners for evil, resulting in severe distress (v. 15).

In the midst of His anger, God is moved to pity by the groaning of the oppressed, and He delivers them from their enemies (v. 18).  Yet, after being delivered, the people in Judges turned back and did not abandon their stubborn ways (v. 19).  They were stuck in the sin cycle.

Are you caught in a sin cycle?

Sin—>Snared—>God’s anger—>Oppression—>
Cry to God—>Delivered—>
Sin—>Snared—>And here you go again

As you continue to read Judges, ask God to use His Word to break the sin cycle and help you live victoriously in Him.

Pray to be the opposite of Judges 2:11-13 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, do not let _______ and me do evil in Your sight and forsake You.
Do not let us follow the gods of the people around us, bowing down to them.
LORD, we do not want to provoke You to anger.
May we never forsake You and serve another.
Because of our covenant with You, Jesus~”
