1 Samuel 7 - Praying God's Word

Please read 1 Samuel 7.

Meditate on verse 12b.

Thus far the LORD has helped us.

It had been 20 years since the Philistines returned the ark of the LORD, and it was still not in the tabernacle. The people grieved because its absence made them feel separated from God; plus, they were still plagued by their enemies, the Philistines. Samuel addressed their real problem:
“If you return to the LORD with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”
—1 Samuel 7:3

The people didn’t need the ark in the proper place; they needed their hearts in the proper place. Only the LORD delivers those who come to Him in humble repentance.
Do you want the LORD to deliver and rescue you?  Seek His help by:
v returning to the LORD with all your heart
v removing your idols (anything more important to you than God)
v directing your heart to the LORD
v serving only Him

Pray 1 Samuel 7:3, 6, 10, and 12 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, ______ and I have sinned against You.
Help us return to You with all our heart.
Remove the foreign gods from among us.
Direct our hearts to You, and let us serve You alone.
Deliver us from the hand of our enemies;
thunder against them; confuse and rout them.
Because You are our help, LORD Jesus~”
