Revelation 5 - Praying God's Word

Please read Revelation 5.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/rev/5/1/s_1172001

Meditate on verse 9.

And they sang a new song, saying,

"Worthy are You to take the book

and to break its seals; for You

were slain and purchased for God

with Your blood men from every tribe

and tongue and people and nation.”

Picture in your mind the worship taking place around God’s throne when Jesus, the Lion, stands at the throne, appearing as a slain Lamb, and takes the book from God’s right hand.  Jesus the Overcomer is on the scene, and every created thing exuberantly rejoices.

Will you join them?  Do not be tempted to join the doom and gloom throng of the world, grumbling their way through life.  If the blood of Jesus purchased you, you are one of those singing praises to the Lion of Judah, the Lamb of God.  Let Revelation 5 become your reality today.  Start by praising Jesus with verses 9-10 and 12-14 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD Jesus, worthy are You to take the book

and to break its seals; for You were

slain and purchased for God with Your blood

people from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

Lamb of God, thank You for purchasing me!

Make _________ and me to be a kingdom and priests to our God

and let us reign upon the earth.

Worthy are You, Lamb that was slain to receive

power and riches and wisdom and might and honor

and glory and blessing.  To You who sits on the throne and to the

Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.

Amen and Amen and Amen and Amen~”

Revelation 4 - Praying God's Word

Please read Revelation 4.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/rev/4/1/s_1171001

Meditate on verses 9-10.

And when the living creatures give glory

and honor and thanks to Him who sits

on the throne, to Him who lives forever

and ever, the twenty-four elders will

fall down before Him who sits on the

throne, and will worship Him who

lives forever and ever, and will

cast their crowns before the throne.

As you continue reading Revelation, remember you are simply reading John’s description of what he saw in his vision from Jesus about Jesus and things that must soon take place (Revelation 1:1).  It would be like you describing a dream you had last night.  So, try to picture in your mind what John saw in his mind 2,000 years ago.

John gives a glorious description of God on His throne and the response of those privileged to see Him.  Notice what happens when the four living creatures praise the LORD (v. 9).  The 24 elders worship Him, too, casting their gold crowns at His feet (v. 10).

Purpose to be a living creature with your eyes fixed on Jesus, constantly giving glory, honor, and thanks to Him.  As you do, notice the impact on others who will worship Him, too.

Praise the LORD with Revelation 4:8b and 11 as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“Holy, holy, holy are You LORD God, the

Almighty, Who was and Who is and

Who is to come.  Worthy are You, my LORD

and my God, to receive glory and

honor and power; for You created all things,

and because of Your will they existed

and were created.  LORD, let me say these

Words day and night, forever and ever.

To the glory of Your name, Jesus~”

Revelation 3 - Praying God's Word

Please read Revelation 3.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/rev/3/1/s_1170001

Meditate on verse 2.  Jesus is giving a command.

“Wake up, and strengthen the things

that remain, which were about to

die, for I have not found your deeds

completed in the sight of My God.”

Here is a wake-up call.  What needs strengthening in your walk with Christ:  daily Bible reading, talking and listening to Jesus, walking in the Spirit’s power, memorizing God’s Word, fellowshipping with believers, and studying God’s Word?  Do not let these Christian disciplines die; ask God to complete them on your journey with Him.

Continue to observe Jesus in this chapter.  He:

·      is the One with the seven spirits of God and the seven stars (v. 1).

·      is holy and true (v. 7).

·      has the key of David; what He opens no one shuts and what He shuts no one opens (v. 7).

·      is the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning, the Origin and Source of creation (v. 14).

Pray Revelation 3:5, 10, 12 and 21-22 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, make _________ and me overcomers clothed

in white garments, whose names will not

be erased from the book of life.  Jesus, confess our

name before Your Father and His angels.

Help us keep the Word of Your perseverance and

keep us from the hour of testing.  Make us pillars in Your

temple who will not go out from it anymore.

Write Your name on us, God,

and the name of Your city, the new Jerusalem.

Make us overcomers who sit down with You

on Your throne just as You have overcome and

sit down with Your Father on His throne.

LORD, we have ears; let us hear what

Your Spirit says to the churches.

In Your name, Jesus~”

Revelation 2 - Praying God's Word

Please read Revelation 2.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/rev/2/1/s_1169001

Meditate on verse 29.

He who has an ear, let him hear

what the Spirit says to the churches.

John recorded seven messages to seven churches, and we are commanded to hear what the Spirit said.  Consider reading the messages three times: observing Jesus, repenting of sin, and noticing the reward for overcoming.

As you fix your eyes on Jesus, you see He is:

·      The One holding the seven stars in His right hand and walking among the seven golden lampstands (v. 1).

·      The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life (v. 8).

·      The One with the sharp two-edged sword (v. 12).

·      The Son of God, with eyes like a flame of fire and feet like burnished bronze (v. 18).

Ask the LORD to convict you of sins listed in this chapter.  Have you lost your first love for Jesus (v. 4)?  Do you hold to the teaching of false teachers, denying God’s truth (vs. 14-15, 20)?

Repent and pray to be an overcomer.  Pray Revelation 2:7, 10, 17, and 26 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, let __________ and me hear what Your

Spirit says to the churches.  Let us overcome and eat

of the tree of life in the Paradise of God.  Make us faithful until

death and give us the crown of life.  Help us

overcome and give us some of Your hidden manna

and a white stone with a new name written on it.

LORD, let us overcome and keep Your deeds until the end.

Give us authority over the nations.

For the sake of Your name, Jesus~”

Revelation 1 - Praying God's Word

Please read Revelation 1.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/rev/1/1/s_1168001

Meditate on this phrase from verse 1.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ…

What a blessing to hold in your hand a letter written to churches revealing our Savior, Jesus Christ!  As you read the words of this prophecy, you get a sneak peek into the end of time and God’s coming judgement, but do not be too focused on those things; fix your eyes on Jesus because He is the focus of this book.

When I (Marsha) studied Revelation using Precept Upon Precept Bible studies, I was taught to take it literally because John is describing what he saw in his vision (vs. 11, 19).  Part of the Bible study was drawing what was depicted in chapters 4-22.  It was an amazing way to handle Revelation.  You may want to get 19 pieces of paper and do the same.

Ask the LORD to give insight with understanding into this revelation of Jesus, getting to know Him like you never have before.

As a faithful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7), pray Revelation 1:8 and 14-18, acknowledging Jesus.

“LORD God, You are the Alpha and the Omega,

who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Your head and Your hair are white like white wool, like

snow, and Your eyes are like a flame of fire.

Your feet are like burnished bronze, when it has been

made to glow in a furnace, and Your voice is like the sound of

many waters.  In Your right hand You hold

seven stars and out of Your mouth comes a sharp

two-edged sword, and Your face is like the sun shining

in its strength.  I will not be afraid because You are the

first and the last, the living One; You were dead, and behold,

You are alive forevermore, and You have the keys of death and Hades.

You are the LORD God, Almighty Jesus~”

2 Peter 3 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Peter 3.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/2pe/3/1/s_1159001

Meditate on verses 3-4a and 10.

Know this first of all, that in the last days

mockers will come with their mocking, following

after their own lusts, and saying,

"Where is the promise of His coming?”

But the day of the LORD will come like a thief, in

which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the

elements will be destroyed with intense heat,

and the earth and its works will be burned up.

What a sobering chapter describing the Day of LORD—the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly and the day of new heavens and a new earth for the righteous (vs. 7, 10, 12).  God promises the day is coming; therefore, how should we live today?  Live your life investing in the eternal—people and God’s Word.  Diligently share the Word of God with others, praying they will choose God’s salvation and not be destroyed.

Pray 2 Peter 3:11-12a, 14, and 18 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, make _________ and me people

 of holy conduct and Godliness,

looking for and hastening the coming

of Your day, God.  May we be

diligent to be found by You in peace,

spotless and blameless.  Let us grow

in the grace and knowledge of You,

our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.

To You be the glory, both now

and to the day of eternity.  Amen.”

2 Peter 2 - Praying God's Word

Please read 2 Peter 2.

www.blueletterbible.org/nasb/2pe/2/1/s_1158001

Meditate on verses 1-2.

But false prophets also arose among the

people, just as there will also be false

teachers among you, who will secretly

introduce destructive heresies, even denying

the Master who bought them, bringing

 swift destruction upon themselves.  Many

will follow their sensuality, and because

of them the way of the truth will be maligned.

Peter warned his readers of false teachers.  They introduce destructive heresies, follow their sensuality, and malign the truth (vs. 1-2).  With eyes full of adultery, they never cease from sin (v. 14).

More than 2,000 years have passed, but our world is eerily similar to Peter’s.  There are false teachers, even in churches, teaching heresy as if it was truth.  God’s Word does not change; He still hates sin.  God hates sin because it destroys lives.  The world’s legalization and condoning of sin does not change what God says about it.  Sin ruins lives even if legalized.  What God called immoral and wrong in the Old Testament was immoral and wrong in the New Testament and is immoral and wrong today.

Do not be swayed from the truth of the Bible.  Do not let a preacher, teacher, family member, or friend convince you that God or His Word has changed.  Stand firm! Live to please God rather than men.

Pray 2 Peter 2:9 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).

“LORD, make __________ and me Godly and

rescue us from temptation.  Save __________ so

they are no longer with the unrighteous,

kept under punishment for the day of judgment.

In Your name, Jesus~”
